Helical Outdoors, ORCKA

2011

ORCKA stands for the Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association and was founded in order to promote  development of safe, competent and knowledgeable recreational canoeists.

ORCKA courses are a great way for anyone to learn new skills and practice old ones.  The curriculum has been carefully thought out and the skills you develop on an ORCKA course can greatly heighten your enjoyment and safety while paddling white water... and the certification is an added bonus.  Many professionals need the certification and this may include you.  For example, teachers often need to complete an ORCKA course in order to lead Education programs in their board.  Camp counsellors and guides interested in leading white water programs often need ORCKA certification to get hired.  Also, anyone interested in remote canoe travel could benefit from taking a course.  Naturally, your skills should be rounded out with Wilderness First Aid and Rescue courses as well, but lets just think about one thing at a time!

We also offer courses to small groups and organizations.  So if your camp, school, organization, or small group have a date in mind, give us a call.  Some of the rivers we work on include the Madawaska, Ottawa, Gatineau, Temagami, Petawawa, Dumoine, and Magnetawan.  If you have a river in mind that works for you just let us know since we’ve likely paddled it too.
